Healthy Youth Development

Why Choose Abstinence Education?

More than 840,000 teens become pregnant each year, sexually transmitted infections are at epidemic proportions with 83% occurring among young people ages 15-25, and there can be significant emotional pain with premarital sexual involvement. As one brochure laments, “There is no condom for the heart.”

Abstinence education programs are focusing on skill-building, boundary setting, and an understanding of healthful relationships. This is resulting in more and more young people saying “yes” to the freedom of abstinence and “yes” to developing true friendships.

Northwest Family Services’ Youth Solutions curricula have been proven effective and are used in school systems nationwide. NWFS continues to grow and to expand its services. Currently, we have many offerings in abstinence education:

  • peer-enacted dramas
  • curricula
  • community-based organization and after school classes
  • educator in-service workshops
  • online teacher training
  • parent education
  • peer leader training
  • in-class presentations
