Grant Proposals

If you are writing a grant to support abstinence-only education in your community, you may find the following information useful. The term abstinence-only or abstinence-until-marriage are virtual synonymous. It means the project to be funded is in compliance, or at minimum, not in conflict with the A-H Definition of abstinence. That description can be found at this link: ftp://ftp.hrsa.gov/mchb/abstinence/cbofs.pdf.

There are three sources of federal funding for abstinence education. Title V funding is through the Maternal Child and Health Bureau and is offered to the governor’s office. Many states offer community grants in support of local efforts. SPRANS grants are offered directly to community organizations in support of abstinence education. This website provides information about both of those sources of funds. http://www.mchb.hrsa.gov/programs/adolescents/abstinence.htm

The Office of Population Affairs periodically offers grants in support of abstinence-only education. The department is the Office of Adolescent Pregnancy Programs (OAPP) also known as Title XX and AFL (Adolescent Family Life). http://opa.osophs.dhhs.gov/grants.html
